On Wednesday’s We Wear P.I.N.K

Lacey Chabert, Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfried, Mean Girls

Ten years ago we met the Cady Heron, Janis Ian, Damien, The “Plastics” and the other various students of Northshore High, when the hit movie “Mean Girls” hit theaters. When a 16 year old teenager moves from South Africa to Illinois, she is in for huge culture shock. Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan) goes from a quiet new student to becoming a member of the “Plastics”.

Mean Girls is based on the New York Times Best Selling book “Queen Bees & Wannabes” by Rosalind Wiseman. After reading the book, SNL star Tina Fey decided to adapt the book into a film and BOOM the idea of Mean Girls was born.

Today celebrated ten years since the film had been released and stars of the film took to social media to reflect on the movie that became such a cultural phenomenon. Lindsay Lohan (Cady) took to twitter saying “As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a mean girl….Xo L.” She added “Flashback to 2004 #Cady”

Last month Tina Fey who played the notable role of Ms. Sharon Norbury reminisced about the film while sitting down with the New York Times recently saying…

“I revisited high school behaviors of my own—futile, poisonous, bitter behaviors that served no purpose,” Fey said of the script, inspired by Rosalind Wiseman‘s book Queen Bees and Wannabes. “That thing of someone saying, ‘You’re really pretty,’ and then, when the other person thanks them, saying, ‘Oh, so you agree? You think you’re pretty?’ That happened in my school. That was a bear trap.”

Fey also gave an update on Mean Girls the Musical saying that it’s still in the “Early development stage” she went on to say “We’ve been enjoying trying to write,” the former 30 Rock star explained. “I wish so badly we could have had it done in some form for the 10th anniversary, but hopefully before the 15th.”

Mean Girls which premiered in 2004 has grossed over $121 million dollars at the box-office and has become one of the most  quotable movies of all time.

Read The Letter Which Forced UMD Police To Respond To Shooting Threat

University of Maryland police sent an alarming letter to students this morning regarding a shooting threat at the Stamp Student Union.

Dear University of Maryland Community,

On April 28, 2014, a UMD student organization sent a letter to its membership about a member who is also a student at UMD.  The letter warned the group to stay away from certain areas of campus, specifically the Student Union, due to recent comments made by the individual member.

Over the past several hours, a copy of this letter has spread throughout our campus and concerns have been expressed about the content of the letter posted by the organization.  A University of Maryland Police Department Detective has interviewed this student and is looking into the statements made last night.  Although the investigation is on-going, there is no threat to the safety of the University community by this student.  Our Detectives have been working with both the organization, the student involved, and the Office of Student Conduct to bring closure to the issue.

Here is the letter which was sent by the Korean Campus Ministry organization to it’s members courtesy of Reddit:

Hey KCM,

We have an emergency situation:

It is regarding another student who may be a danger to himself and to others. I will explain further below. But first…

Please be cautious of going to Stamp for the time being, most likely the rest of the semester. Preferably, do not go to Stamp at all, if possible. If you need to buy food, then please avoid public areas like the Baltimore Room.

Also, for the time being, Focus Family, Prayer Meeting, E-Team meeting, XEE, and Large Group will be cancelled for this week. We will update you further.

Throughout this semester, there has been an issue with one of our fellow students. I do not feel comfortable disclosing his name publicly over this email, but I am sure a lot of you know who he is already. To summarize, he has been unstable and has mentioned buying a weapon to one of our members three weeks ago. We approached the police then. They searched his home and found that he does not have a weapon. But today, he made threats against the ministry and the officers specifically. We approached the police with this information but they cannot do anything because that student has not actually committed an offense.

So the best thing we can do, for safety, is to avoid contact with that student for the time being until we can draw up a more solid plan of action.

Beyonce And Jay Z Summer Tour Details

Jay Z and Beyonce are combining their superstar talents and hitting the road. The couple announced Monday, April 28, that they'll co-headline a summer tour called "On the Run," starting in June.

Power couple Jay Z and Beyonce had fans screaming and super excited yesterday when the two announced that they would be going on tour together this summer.

The tour will take the duo to 16 cities throughout North America, starting in June. The couple first gave a hint that they would possibly tour together back in early April.

Beyonce and Jay Z have dominated the music industry and have become one of Hollywood’s most respectable couples. Whether they are making music solo or together, the pair has never stopped making hits. Their most recent hit “Drunk In Love” was considered controversial by some critics, nonetheless the song landed at no. 1.

With the “On The Run” tour set to begin soon, the duo plan to combine their star power and use it for the greater good. What fans don’t know is that a dollar from each “On The Run” ticket sold will go towards the Shawn Carter Foundation, an organization that help undeserved groups go to college.

The tour is also going into partnership with Beyonce’s #BeyGOOD campaign, whose mission is to inspire the use of charity work, kindness and community involvement.

Supreme Court Allows Michigan To Ban Affirmative Action

The Supreme Court ruled to uphold Michigan’s ban on affirmative action on Tuesday. A constitutional amendment was passed in Michigan back in 2006 which banned affirmative action in admissions to state schools and universities.

According to the New York Times, other states such as Texas, California and Florida who have also banned affirmative action in admissions to state schools and universities have seen a drop in minority students attending more selective institutions.

Chief Justice John Roberts was quoted as saying in 2007:

The way to stop discrimination on the basis of race is to stop discriminating on the basis of race.

Ruined Selfie Earns Teen $250,000

Remember the viral video which featured a kid who got kicked by a train conductor while attempting to take a video selfie?

Well that kid has reached a new deal with Jukin Media, a video licensing company. Because the video is obtaining views at a rapid pace, it will be able to earn anywhere between $2 and $16 per 1,000 views. The kid, Jared Frank, is expected to take 70 percent of those earnings which could be between $30,000 and $250,000 according to estimates.

Jukin Media will now have the right to license the video to any companies who want to use it for their own purposes. They’ll also take 30 percent of whatever money the video makes through ads.

Frank plans to use the money on film school and told CBC News that he trusts the licensing company which is handling the video’s financial potential.

University of Maryland student-athlete Michael Mutryn was found dead in his apartment after roommates found him unresponsive and called police on Easter Sunday around 3 p.m. according to WJLA-TV.

The Potomac native played club hockey at UMD and had just attended a hockey banquet on Saturday evening. The 23-year-old student, who lived at Domain Apartments in College Park according to sources, was in possession of two 9MM handguns, crack cocaine, the drug ecstasy, and hypodermic needles” according to police the scene.

Police believe that Mutryn was a victim of drug overdose but are waiting on confirmation from toxicology reports which will come back in six weeks. An autopsy is also being conducted by a medical examiner in Baltimore.

Mutryn’s former high school posted this tribute on Twitter:

After calling University of Maryland police on their non-emergency hotline, we were told that students wouldn’t get an alert about this kind of situation because it occurred off-campus.

According to sources, residents who reside in the student’s apartment complex have not been alerted on the situation either. The only known evidence of an incident occurring is from this tweet posted around 9:40 p.m.

We tried to get in contact with Domain Apartments but offices were closed.

Luckily, for now, the changes will exclusively affect new customers only.

The Obama administration is preparing to free “hundreds, perhaps thousands” of prisoners who have been jailed for non-violent drug crimes according to Yahoo News.

President Obama plans to use his presidential pardon powers to “restore fairness in the criminal-justice system”.

The report also says that the administration has urged the Justice Department to recruit more applications from convicts and to change their processing procedures for petitions of pardon (try to say that five times).

An official announcement could come as soon as this week.
