A police officer in South Carolina has been charged with assault and battery after shooting a man he stopped for a seat belt violation.
Video of the incident was released late Wednesday night by The State newspaper in South Carolina and it was used during the police officer’s bond hearing.
As the video shows, the victim did not provoke the situation and did not have any weapons on him when the shooting took place.
Sean Groubert, a lance corporal, could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
The driver, Levar Jones, was struck once in the hip but was released from the hospital and is now recovering from injuries.
