Believe it or not, cuffing season is right around the corner. Yes, cuffing season. Never heard of it? Here’s the definition:

Cuffing Season –  The time period when single or “sexually indiscriminate” individuals find themselves with a deep desire to be “cuffed” or tied down by a serious relationship.

Some people jump into relationships because they’re trying to fill some void in their lives. They love cuffing season because they believe it will make them happier or less lonely.

But unfortunately, it doesn’t always work out that way. Here are some tips on how to avoid this dreadful time of year.

1. Understand that most people do not just want a “cuddle buddy”

2. Watch out for people that like to send random check-in messages (which could be mass texts) and call you randomly – If someone has been ignoring you all summer and starts texting you all of a sudden, its possible that person just wants to turn you into a winter wifey.

3. Be realistic – Cuffing season is only from November to March so if you’re looking for something more long-term then know that this is probably not the best time to start a relationship.

4. Contemplate if you’re ready to give up your selfish behaviors

5. Dive into your work – By focusing on homework and internships (and purchasing a blanket) you can avoid complicating your schedule with a relationship
