Nominations for the 73rd Golden Globe Awards were announced Thursday and the ceremony’s biggest categories are loaded with countless household names.

First and foremost, heavyweight performer Leonardo DiCaprio is once again nominated for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama for his newest film The Revenant, the account of an 1800s frontiersman struggling to find refuge in the snowy wilderness following a comrade’s betrayal. The Revenant received four nominations total, including one for Best Motion Picture, Drama. Continue reading DiCaprio, Gaga, and Stallone: Hollywood’s Finest Dominate 2016 Golden Globe Nominations

Paramount Pictures Releases Star-Studded ‘Zoolander 2’ Trailer

After major successes in 2001’s Zoolander, starring Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson, Paramount Pictures finally released the trailer to Zoolander 2 and the teaser is surprisingly chock full of familiar faces baring the strangest characters.

After Derek Zoolander (Ben Stiller), our favorite lip-puckering and borderline illiterate male model, embarrassingly discovers that he is now a washed-up fellow of the fashion industry, he is called back into action by none other than a gorgeous Penelope Cruz.

As an ambiguous crime agent of some sort, she recruits the help of both Zoolander and his rival turned BFF Hansel (Owen Wilson) because an unknown criminal mastermind is killing some of the world’s most beautiful people. Side note: according to this trailer, Justin Bieber is one of the world’s most beautiful people.

Will Ferrell also returns as clothing designer Jacobim Mugatu, who’s straight out of prison is looking to cause some mayhem—Seriously, he had his harmless assistant give him a steaming latte foam-imprinted with his face, took a sip and then poured it all over said harmless assistant…

Alongside Penelope Cruz, Sherlock’s Benedict Cumberbatch also stars as the new face of high fashion, an androgynous long-haired couture model who has basically replaced Zoolander as the it-guy. Is there anything Cumberbatch can’t do?

Comedic heavyweight Kristin Wiig also appears as a Botox-crazed professional in the fashion industry, sort of like Elizabeth Banks’ Effie Trinket in The Hunger Games—if she was addicted to cosmetic surgery.

The trailer also includes lists of celebrity cameos from starlets such as Joe Jonas, Usher, SNL’s Kyle Mooney and Miley Cyrus. And I have a feeling that there is a lot more where that came from.

Zoolander 2 is in theaters this February 12, 2016. Check out the trailer below.

Box Office Update: Is 2015’s Success Streak Officially Over?

Despite huge Hollywood starlets, “bankable” sequels and the power of 1980s memorabilia, numbers at the box office remain dismal this fall after a prosperous blockbuster-packed summer.

Just months ago, it felt like everything the mainstream film industry supplied to the public was thriving as familiar ensemble casts, new comers and reboots alike flooded silver screens with creations people responded heavily to.

Films such as Pitch Perfect 2, Trainwreck and Disney Pixar’s Inside Out drove viewers off their couches and Netflix accounts, and into those theater seats.

Summer releases Jurassic World, Furious 7, Avengers: Age of Ultron and Minions now reside in the world’s top 10 most grossing films of all time, alongside movies like Titanic, Frozen and Avatar.

However, the flourishing phase seems to be dwindling down as recent films take in less money than producers predicted, including the highly anticipated biographical film Steve Jobs, starring Oscar-nominated actor Michael Fassbender, directed by Oscar-winner Danny Boyle and written by renowned screenwriter Aaron Sorkin.

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” Official Trailer Recap and What It Tells Us

During Monday Night Football’s halftime, the heavily anticipated full-length trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens was revealed, causing a stir on the Internet and getting fans riled up for the seventh installment in the legendary series.

Being a huge Star Wars fan myself, I took to the internet soon after I watched the trailer during halftime of the Giants vs. Eagles game. I was curious to see other people’s perspectives on the trailer and what fan theories people already created.

As I spent some time scrolling down the YouTube comments for the trailer, many fans already began asking questions, such as, “Where is Luke?” or “Who is Kylo Ren?” Some fans even theorized as to whether or not classic characters such as Han Solo would be killed off or not. The overwhelmingly positive response to the trailer was apparent throughout much of the comment section.

Aside from theories, what we know thus far is that the main characters appear to be Rey and Finn because of the extended screen time they received during the two and a half minute trailer. Rey, played by Daisy Ridley, appears to be a wanderer of the dessert planet, Jaku. When a woman’s voice asks her who she is, Rey proclaims “I’m no one.” However, this does not seem to be the case as she is the focus of the trailer.

The other prominent face seen throughout the trailer is Finn, played by John Boyega. Finn appears to be a soldier who has deserted the Empire and has “nothing to fight for.” It seems he will be a primary character in the movie because he is seen wielding a blue lightsaber, signifying him to be a Jedi Knight (who is possibly still in training).

End of May Movies

Mad Max: Fury Road

This post-apocalyptic film focuses on Mad Max Rockatanksy, a former highway patrolman, who agrees to protect a woman named Furiosa and five captives she has rescued, as they cross the desert. This film is the fourth in the Mad Max series and spent 25  years in the developmental stage before receiving the funding to be filmed. After issues with Mel Gibson, who played Rockatansky in the previous three films, in 2011 filming started with Tom Hardy assuming the titular role. Hardy told Esquire magazine that he will star in three more Mad Max movies after Fury Road. The first Mad Max movie was released in 1979.

Pitch Perfect 2

This sequel follows the Bellas as they enter an international acapella competition that has never been won by an American team. The film, which stars Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson, brought back the majority of the main characters and added a new recruit, played by Hailee Steinfield. Pitch Perfect 2 is being lauded for being one of the few female centered blockbusters of the summer as well as recognized as an expected success. This time around the film is directed by Elizabeth Banks.

Good Kill

A man who works as a drone operator begins to feel conflicted about his job as he tries to reconcile the attacks he perpetrates from afar. The main character,Tom Egan, played by Ethan Hawke struggles to learn how to deal with the gravity of his missions and living his life with his family. The film shows the effect of drones on military personnel and how war is changing.

His new found success causes problems with the other strippers at the club. This movie is filled with familiar faces such as Micheal Jai White, Tyson Beckford, Ginuwine, and Darrin Dewitt Henson.

San Andreas

After a massive earthquake splits California, a helicopter pilot played by Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson travels across the state to rescue his daughter and seemingly every other female he comes in contact with. The film get its name from the San Andreas fault, which splits causing destruction throughout the West.

Bradley Cooper stars as a military contractor who is reassigned to Hawaii to oversee the launch of a weapons satellite, after having  a meltdown, is and forced to deal with his past. He goes back to face his ex, Rachel McAdams, and finds a new love interest, his Air Force liaison played by Emma Stone. The film also stars Bill Murray and Alec Baldwin.

Avengers: Age of Ultron Hits Big! (Review)

Marvel nerd or not, one can’t help but to appreciate the gloriousness that is Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. First off, I have to give props to the movie’s director, Joss Whedon, who also directed The Avengers. Due to the success of The Avengers in 2012, some viewers would be a bit hesitant about the quality of the sequel (let’s be real, sequels are never as good as the original), but Avengers: Age of Ultron is a whole different Marvel beast.

Kiss Cams, Angel Wings and Magic Mike Twerking: 2015 MTV Movie Awards RECAP

Funny girl comedian Amy Schumer hosted the 2015 MTV Movie Awards Sunday. Although this year’s awards show was pretty much an uneventful collection of presenter banter followed by yet ANOTHER win by Shailene Woodley, there were some major OMG moments along the way. The moment Vin Diesel briefly sang Wiz Khalifa’s “See You Again” to honor his late Fast and Furious co-star Paul Walker. giphyThe moment John Green, author of The Fault in Our Stars, got teary-eyed after Shailene Woodley dedicated her award for Best Female Performance to him. mtv-movie-awards-2015-john-green-cryingThe moment Jennifer Lopez challenged the cast of Magic Mike XXL to give us all a little show, and Channing Tatum accepted. Rihanna’s career reaches new heights in 2015

Since the start of her career in 2005, it seems that singer Rihanna has had little else but success and prosperity in her path. The Def Jam songstress saw instant gratification in her freshman and sophomore albums, both released within a year of each other and peaking in the top ten of the Billboard 200.

Although many were distracted from the Barbadian beauty’s talent in 2009 after her highly publicized altercation with then-beau and fellow musician Chris Brown, Rih was able to bounce right back, dropping four platinum albums in four consecutive years and starring in her first feature film, Battleship.
