Why We Need to Talk Seriously About Those Ayesha Curry Tweets! (Opinion)

by MARYAM OUTLAW

Ayesha Curry, Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry’s wife, was dunked in scalding hot water Saturday night after tweeting controversial comments regarding women’s fashion and clothing as it pertains to male attention.

While flipping through lifestyle magazines, the 26-year-old wife and mother of two was inspired to say that when it comes to style she would take “classy over trendy any day,” opting to dress more modestly in public and save the “good stuff” for her husband.

Of course Twitter, being the “clap back” community that it is, immediately voiced its displeasure, placing Curry’s tweets under an ever-broadening canopy of political correctness and shouting feminism in the process. Angela Merkel Named Time ‘Person of the Year’

by EMILY KALLMYER

Time Magazine has named German Chancellor Angela Merkel as the “Person of the Year,” marking the first time in 29 years a woman has received the title, which was called “Man of the Year” up until 1999.

Merkel was selected in large part because of her strong guidance throughout the European debt crises and her role in the ongoing refugee crisis. But some have expressed disapproval over the decision.

Most notably, Donald Trump, a runner-up for the award, shared his view on Thursday on “Fox & Friends”.

“I think they absolutely picked the wrong person,” Trump said.

He disparaged the chancellor, naming her as “the person that’s really done tremendous damage to Germany.” Continue reading Angela Merkel Named Time ‘Person of the Year’

Trump May Transcend the Truth But He Doesn’t Transcend Stupidity (Opinion)

by KATIE BEMB

Presidential candidate Donald Trump has had a lot to say lately and a good chunk of it isn’t making any sense.

Trump recently stated if he is elected president, he wants mosques under surveillance in light of recent terrorist attacks by ISIS.

In an interview with MSNBC’s Morning Joe a few weeks ago, Trump stated: “You’re going to have to watch and study the mosques, because a lot of talk is going on in the mosques.”

In addition, Trump plans to force out Syrian refugees that have settled in the U.S., according to a speech he gave to voters during a campaign stop in New Hampshire. Continue reading Trump May Transcend the Truth But He Doesn’t Transcend Stupidity (Opinion)

Paramount Pictures Releases Star-Studded ‘Zoolander 2’ Trailer

by MARYAM OUTLAW

After major successes in 2001’s Zoolander, starring Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson, Paramount Pictures finally released the trailer to Zoolander 2 and the teaser is surprisingly chock full of familiar faces baring the strangest characters.

After Derek Zoolander (Ben Stiller), our favorite lip-puckering and borderline illiterate male model, embarrassingly discovers that he is now a washed-up fellow of the fashion industry, he is called back into action by none other than a gorgeous Penelope Cruz.

As an ambiguous crime agent of some sort, she recruits the help of both Zoolander and his rival turned BFF Hansel (Owen Wilson) because an unknown criminal mastermind is killing some of the world’s most beautiful people. Side note: according to this trailer, Justin Bieber is one of the world’s most beautiful people.

Will Ferrell also returns as clothing designer Jacobim Mugatu, who’s straight out of prison is looking to cause some mayhem—Seriously, he had his harmless assistant give him a steaming latte foam-imprinted with his face, took a sip and then poured it all over said harmless assistant…

Alongside Penelope Cruz, Sherlock’s Benedict Cumberbatch also stars as the new face of high fashion, an androgynous long-haired couture model who has basically replaced Zoolander as the it-guy. Is there anything Cumberbatch can’t do?

Comedic heavyweight Kristin Wiig also appears as a Botox-crazed professional in the fashion industry, sort of like Elizabeth Banks’ Effie Trinket in The Hunger Games—if she was addicted to cosmetic surgery.

The trailer also includes lists of celebrity cameos from starlets such as Joe Jonas, Usher, SNL’s Kyle Mooney and Miley Cyrus. And I have a feeling that there is a lot more where that came from.

Zoolander 2 is in theaters this February 12, 2016. Check out the trailer below.

Colorado Students Spread Nude Photos Using App

by LINDSEY FEINGOLD

Authorities say some students at Cañon City High School have been part of a large sexting ring.

300 to 400 nude photos had been circulating around the high school and the ring involved over 100 students, some of whom may be in middle school. In a town with only 16,000 people and a high school of 1,000 the sexting ring has become a big deal for local authorities.

Most of the students involved are part of the high school football team, the Cañon City Tigers. Due to players’ involvement in the ring,  the Tigers had to forfeit their last football game of the season. A separate meeting was held for the parents of the team and for other students involved in the scandal, according to the New York Times.

The students involved used “ghost apps,” applications with secret vaults used to hide anything from photos to notes, which was why no one initially found out about the sexting ring. The applications are also called vault apps, and can appear to look similar to the calculator app on phones.

There was also a point system used for students who collected photographs. Different point values were assigned to different students, according to the New York Times. Students would gain points by adding the photos to their collections.

Some students have already been suspended, but officials don’t exactly know how to proceed. Usually, students would be charged with child pornography charges, but most of them are minors themselves, which makes the question of how to go about disciplining students tough to answer.

Yet, this high school is not the only place where teenagers are sending nude photographs to classmates. 54 percent of teens under the age of 18 surveyed said that they have sexted before, according to Time Magazine. This is a growing national trend, and officials in the small Colorado town are astounded at how large the sexting ring became.
